NOTICE: GAP’s cancellation
and payment policies
- The deadline for making or canceling a reservation is by noon on the Friday
prior to the meeting.
- If you want to pay for the dinner meeting with your credit card, you may do that
online only;
GAP cannot take credit card payments at the door. GAP will accept
cash or check at the door.To be eligible for a refund of a credit card payment, you must cancel your
reservation before the deadline. Service charges will not be refunded.
A specific request for an eligible refund should be made to the GAP office in
writing (email preferred), and the refund will be made via check drawn on the
GAP account.
Any no-shows will be invoiced in the amount of the non-member rate.

This presentation will explain the elements of the
Work-Product Doctrine, how it is different from attorney-client privilege,
where is it founded in law and how it is handled procedurally.
Mary McKay has served as NFPA’s Region III Director since May 2006. Since
GAP is part of Region III, Ms. McKay represents us on the NFPA Board of
Directors. Some of you may remember meeting her at the NFPA Leadership
Conference hosted by GAP in 2006.
Mary is employed as a paralegal coordinator and senior litigation paralegal
at Glen Rasmussen Fogarty & Hooker, PA in Tampa, Florida. She completed her
paralegal studies at the University of Miami. For nine years following
graduation, she taught paralegal studies at the University of Miami and at
Miami-Dade Community College.
Mary has served her local association, Tampa Bay Paralegal Association, in
the position of NFPA Liaison, First Vice President, President-Elect and
President. In 2005, Mary was chosen as one of two runners-up for Legal
Assistant Today’s Paralegal of the Year and won the top honor in 2007.

Our speaker, Brian Winn, holds a BBA from Georgia State University. Prior to
joining Kelly law Registry, Mr. Winn was district vice president for the
American Arbitration Association in Atlanta, where he held various
management positions during his 17-year career.
Mr. Winn is responsible for the operations, strategic planning, and business
development of Kelly Law Registry’s Atlanta office, overseeing placement of
attorneys, paralegals and other legal professionals with employers in
Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, and
Kentucky.

Special Education Law is a very specialized
area of law that focuses on the rights of children with disabilities. Its
leading attorneys, both plaintiff and defense, strive to ensure that children
with special needs are given a FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education.)
Our guest speaker, Thomas W. Dickson, Esq., will discuss his perspective and
insight as a Defense Attorney representing public school districts. Counsel
Dickson has been a partner with The Weatherly Law Firm in Atlanta, Georgia for
the past six years. His practice with the firm has included representation of
state department of education entities and school districts both locally and
across the country. In addition, Mr. Dickson has taken many cases from the
administrative court level up through the appellate level.
Counsel Dickson is a 1986 honors graduate from the University of Florida School
of Law, where he served as a Board Member and Senior Editor for the University
of Florida Law Review. He subsequently studied constitutional and civil rights
law at Columbia University School of Law, earning an LL.M.
